Coal Burning Method of Spoon Carving - Saturday April 26th 3pm

$60.00 USD

Join us at the Wild Goods Headquarters 30 minutes just outside of Asheville, NC

Using a few simple tools and a nice warm fire, Hannelore Berken will instruct you on how to carve your very own wooden spoon and the basics of carving.

If you have a fixed blade knife and/or a piece of cured wood that you'd like to use, bring it along! There will be extra knives and wood for use if not, as well as everything else you will need for the class.

Woodcarving is surely a patient activity, so you may not finish your spoon in class, but you'll have the foundations of carving in your pocket to take home with you.

This class is best for ages 12+, and anyone under the age of 18 should be supervised by an adult.

Hannelore has been carving wooden items in these mountains for the better part of 8 years. There have always been items that made her feel at home, no matter what stage of life she was in. Of these constants were her mother's wooden spoons, and they inspired her to learn to make them. Over time, she discovered that carving is very similar to life. Each year we transform a little in hopes for betterment of ourselves, and similarly, with each chip carved, the wood is more polished and succinct than before.
